PM Mikati's resignation bowl Lebanese politics in chaos

The news of Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati's resignation spurred fierce weekend clashes in his hometown, the coastal city of Tripoli.
Residents lobbed rockets and fired bullets at one another Saturday, leaving at least three people wounded, state news agency NNA reported.
The city is home to both Alawite and Sunni Muslims, and sectarian tensions have worsened in recent months as the civil war in neighboring Syria rages on.
Lebanon PM on regional instability
The Alawites support Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The Sunnis want his ouster.
The Lebanese government has remained officially neutral in the conflict -- even as it has firmly, but quietly, supported al-Assad.
And Mikati, while a Sunni, led that effort.
His departure, therefore, comes at a sensitive time for Lebanon.
Analysts say the longer the Syrian conflict rages, the more destabilized Lebanon will become.

Pakistani ex-president returned home to save nation in spite of death risk

Former President Pervez Musharraf stated his plan to run for office, saying he defied risks to save the country.
Musharraf landed in Karachi on Sunday after four years in deport. He faces against the law charges, Taliban have declared to unleash a "death squad" to kill him.
However, he said, he does not plan to escape again.
"I have put my life in danger and have come to Pakistan -- to you to be the rescuer of this country," he said at the airport. "I have come to save Pakistan."He blamed people who had doubted that he would return.
"There were buzz that I would not come -- where are those people now?" he asked. "I am here. I have returned."
At the airport, crowds danced, waved the nation's green flag and chanted Musharraf's name. Some people carried giant posters, plastered with his face.
"Inshallah (God willing) we will be successful if I have your support," he said.
